How to Raise Your Klout Score

Do you know what your Klout score is? I got an email today saying that my Klout score has gone up. When I clicked on the link to read my score, I saw that it went from 40 points to 41 points. To me, anything under 50 is most certainly a failure (a leftover from my school days). What I really found is that my score was about average. Now what?

As someone who has decided to make her living on he internet, I feel my score should be above average. According to the support desk at Klout.com, a score of 63 is considered above average and would put me in the top 5% of all users. Okay then, my goal is a Klout score of 70, just shoot for something slightly out of reach.

Why is Klout Important?

Klout is a measure of your influence online but beyond that, I have no idea why it’s important. I’ve read plenty articles online about how to raise your score, but I haven’t quite gathered why measuring Klout is a good idea. Rather, I prefer to see if raising my score actually makes a difference with my business.

That’s all I care about –  to see if raising my score has an impact on my business. I did read in one article that some employers check the Klout score of their job candidates. If the score is too low, they may not get hired. However, that scenario doesn’t pertain to me.  So, I prefer to just wait and see.

Build My Social Network

Apparently, Klout is kind of a social network. I didn’t know. Apparently, their platform is designed for people with like-minded interests to connect and share content with one another. Interesting. I guess I should start participating there if I want to raise my score.

Not only that, but I bet that if I participated more on my social networks, I bet my score will go up. For example, if I were to get high quality Twitter followers, or ramp up my participation on Facebook, Linked In, and Google+, I bet that will also help. Also, I don’t even have an Instagram account. It seems like everyone has one these days.

So, I’m doing this in stages.

1. Figure out what it means to participate on Klout and execute a plan for doing so.

2. Build up my networks at social sites. Start with Twitter, and move down the list one by one until I’m happy with my involvement with each of the accounts.

3. Assess progress and if necessary, come up with a new plan of attack.

Current Klout Score: 41

What’s your Klout score? How did you get it to where it is? I would love to hear from you!
